Get paid the way guests pay.

Cash, a card machine, a QR code on the bill, or four friends paying their own share with a tip each. The money goes into your own account, and the bill closes itself when the card goes through.

The till sends the bill to the card machine; the order closes on every screen when the card goes through. Watch it with chapters →

Your own Stripe account

Connect your restaurant’s own Stripe account from Settings › Payments. Card money goes straight to you. You never type a key into Fresh, and Fresh never sees or keeps a card number.

Pay by link or QR code

The till shows a pay-by-card link or QR code for the bill. The guest pays on their own phone, on Stripe’s page, and the order closes on every screen with “Table 4 paid”. The amount is always the saved bill, less what was already paid. Watch the video.

Card machines

Pair a Stripe card reader in Settings and the till gets Charge on card machine: the bill appears on the reader, the guest taps, inserts or swipes, and the order closes by itself. The reader only needs power and the internet. A declined card shows why, with Try again.

Split the bill

Split evenly between guests, by item, by seat or by any amount. Each part is paid its own way, cash or card, and the bill closes when nothing is left. Close the window halfway and the parts already paid are kept. Watch the video.

Tips, kept apart

Ask for tips at the till with 10, 15 or 20 percent or an amount. Tips are never counted as sales, tax or service charge, and cash tips are in the drawer’s expected cash. The receipt lists each payment and its tip.

Refunds back to the card

A refund of a card-link or card-machine payment goes back to the same card, recorded once on Voids & Refunds.

Questions

Whose account does the card money go to?

Yours. Each restaurant connects its own Stripe account, and Stripe pays out to you. Fresh takes a 0.5% fee on each card payment, and Stripe charges its own fees on your account.

Which card machines work?

Stripe’s own readers, such as the BBPOS WisePOS E and the Stripe Reader S700, paired to your Stripe account.

When is an order marked paid?

Only when Stripe confirms the payment. Then it closes on every screen, and the person who started the payment is told on their phone.

Can a bill be paid half in cash, half by card?

Yes. Each part keeps its own method and tip, and every report reads how the order was really paid.
